History of Punjabi Suits

The origins of the Punjabi Suit are mostly linked to the Mogul Empire of North India. During this time, the subcontinent was a hub for the Mogul Empire.

The Moguls brought with them the architecture, language and culture of Persia. They also brought along their clothes and tastes.

One such style that came along with them was the choga, a long shirt and trousers paired together. This evolved into the churidar.

The churidar pyjama was not just a piece of attire, it was more of a lifestyle for the people of Punjab. People would wear them for both casual and formal wear.

The British and Indians eventually made the churidar pyjama their formal wear. However, it wasn’t until the Independence of India and Pakistan that the suit became more popular.
