Times are changing and so are the outfits, but what’s sad is we are slowly but steadily growing out of our sarees and Kurtis and moving into western gowns which are pretty too but quite behind on the magic. This could be easily blamed on our beloved celebrities as they generally have these amazing western outfits when they grace the red carpets and our oh-so-fashionable dreams! The lack of sarees and Indian ethnic wear is quite sad as just a few actresses like Vidya Balan and Rekha have kept the tradition alive.
What most Indian women forget is that we have quite a different body and are much more naturally endowed in comparison to the western women out there! Our heights and other physical aspects make our bodies the very best palette for the beautiful ethnic wear our country boasts of. The designers' Punjabi suits have made it nearly impossible to choose an outfit without them, but we beg to differ since with the right eye, taste and careful observation it is effortless to land the best #OOTD with just one person – YOU!
Here are a few options which will make sure that you rock the ethnic day like no one other!
1# This one is for the comfort lovers as it is both comfortable and stylish. A long, loose-fitting kurta along with a very loose Patiala pant says cool like nothing else. Dark colored long kurta which hangs just a few inches above the ankle leave the right amount of space for the color of the pant to peep through. The color scheme in this outfit is quite essential as the shape is not given much importance. A dark-colored kurti along with a bright light colored pant would make for the best costume. Small prints on the top are equally encouraged in case you need a little motivation or extra push for the occasion. If the color scheme is too bright and fancy for you, then you could always opt for something more subtle like greys and navy blue instead of the neons.
2# One of the most loved kurtas come from exceptional parts of our beautiful country. Lucknowi stitch is one such example where a very thin and sheer material is generally used for the base, and the stitching is done with much more substantial material and makes for most of the outfit. It is mainly seen in bright and light colors and can be worn with white or equally light colored pants and leggings. Another such traditional kurta is the wrap around which looks like the kurta is made by wrapping around two or more varied cloths and looks like an illusion and gives great shape to the body!
3# Big and intricately designed prints are now in trend and rightly so! Monocolour is in when it comes to a lot of ethnic wear as people now do not prefer to confuse with too many colors. If the usage of color is more, then it is mostly in case of sarees which are made of chiffon and worn for more casual and laid back events. So, long kurti frocks with dark colors like magenta and navy blue or blood red along with huge prints along the body say stylish and designer like no other. Such designs are best if you wish to attend an event which is not exactly in your honour, but you definitely want to look the part as it gives you a regal look.
4# Sometimes ‘old is gold’ and ‘less is more’ sound like angels singing right? Well, this happens when you wish to take the route people do not take any more, not of the road less traveled but rather because of the road over-traveled! Salwar kameez has been an option for the ladies since time immemorial but what we should not forget is sometimes just tweaking a few things can not only restore the magic but rather add more depth due to the history. The same is the case with this, if you wish to go all out then you could opt for heavy embroidery on either the pants or dupatta which could make any plain jane salwar kameez fancy and complete party wear!
The above mentioned were a few ways in which making ethnic the goal of the day would be the way to go! Make sure you try some of the styles to be the ethnic queen even when you are a newbie at it! Hush, it'll be our little secret!
